Apple Going the SaaS Way

Apple has unveiled a new web-based service of its iWork.com Productivity suite. Apple has taken the same path as Microsoft’s Software-Plus-Services strategy which has been recognized in view of the growing interest and adoption of web-based applications. Apple is also moving in this direction to build on the momentum it has earned penetrating the corporate environment.

Apple capitalized on customer discontent with Microsoft’s move to Vista at the desktop and laptop levels, to win a greater share of the corporate PC market. The iPhone has also been a big success among corporate customers. So, Apple is in a far better position to succeed in its SaaS initiative than Microsoft.
